Getting ready to head into my stretch of three for the weekend. My days off this week were slow. I went on a ride yesterday with my friend from work. Other than getting caught in a little bit of rain, it was another enjoyable day getting out and putting miles on the bike. I’ve done over 700 miles since March. I can’t believe it I’ve ridden it that much, but the odometer doesn’t lie.
On Wednesday night, someone approached me while I was in my parking garage looking over the bike in preparation for my ride the next day. It looked very apparent that this person was homeless and he asked me if I had any tools he could use to change his tire on his bike that gotten a flat tire. Of course I have all kinds of tools, but initially I had hesitation to help being a little mistrusting of the situation. I guess just because of stereotypes I’ve formed over the years working with un-housed people in the healthcare system.
But I looked past that and went to see how I could help. I went and got some wrenches and helped him change and patch the tire. He gave me the tools right back and thanked me. I asked his name and shook his hand wishing him good luck. It did make me feel good to help him out. I can imagine how being in that vulnerable situation and having your bike break, something you rely heavily on, would feel like the end of the world.
Of course it made me feel good to help someone out. And I guess was just another thing that reminded me that inherently I am a person capable of doing good things. Which is something I have struggled with in the aftermath of this last year.
Otherwise, I was able to get my infusion done today. Apparently it had got delivered yesterday but I never got notified by Fedex and they just kind of left my medication sitting out in the mail room. A little disappointing because taking my infusion makes me pretty tired after and doing it today and then having to go to work all night might take a toll on me. My Crohn’s was definitely getting symptomatic so I’m glad I got it done this week regardless.
I didn’t get anything from the recruiter this week about the new job so I will have to make sure I follow up Monday ASAP so I make sure I’m not behind on my exit plan of leaving this current job by the end of July.
And in other news my brother has booked his flights to come out and spend time with me in August around my birthday. He will be here for 7 days so I will have to make sure I have those days off while he is here so we can maximize the time I have to show him Colorado. He has never been to this state before so there will be lots for him to see.
But that’s pretty much it. The same old same old. Just making an effort to keep moving forward.
Thanks for reading.
