It’s been a while since I updated this blog. My last post was just a couple days before my last day of work, and since then a lot has happened. I quit my job the 2nd of August. I’ve been taking this month off to have big mental reset. I took the biggest motorcycle trip I’ve ever done and attended Sturgis 2026 in South Dakota. I drove through 3 states, got my pin and patch, saw the sites, and made the trip back driving almost 800 miles in two days.
I’m extremely proud of myself. I was really scared to go and almost talked myself out of it the night before. But I woke up, grabbed my packed bags and headed out. It’s the bravest thing I’ve done in the last year or so honestly. And again, I am so happy I went through with it.
After that my brother flew in and visited me for 8 days. We spent some time exploring different parts of Colorado. We drove out to the mountains, ate at a lot of different restaurants, and really just caught up. I hadn’t seen him in person since Christmas last year. It was really nice to have him here and have some company. Especially since he is family.
And now I have another 7 days or so until I start at my new job. I got all of my on-boarding things done earlier last week so I’m just waiting for the go ahead from my new manager. I’m looking forward to getting started, making really good money, and moving my life forward. Getting ahead financially is the goal in the next 4 months. And with this job paying me double what I was making at my last job, I’ll be able to do that.
I am a little worried for winter. I think with it being cold and snowy, I lose the ability to do the hobbies I like. No more motorcycling, or kayaking, getting outside and enjoying the warm weather. So I have to think of ways to get myself through the cold season. I don’t want to get into a depression over the winter months.
I guess that just means I have to come up with a winter hobby. I could start snowboarding again, but it is something I would have to spend a bunch of money on to get started back up. I’ll think on it.
And of course, today is my 30th birthday. I don’t have any big plans. Birthdays have never been anything special in my family anyway. I’m just taking the day to get some errands done and maybe plan another motorcycle ride later in the week before I get back to having a work schedule.
There have been lots of thoughts of my ex over the last week. Back in May a couple days before her birthday, I told her not to contact me anymore. Since she was continuing to text me and sent me that nurses’ week text where she told me I was one of the smartest people she has ever met, I’ve had a big impact on her career, etc. all while still being very involved in this new guy she is seeing. I didn’t wish her a happy birthday, and so I’m not expecting anything from her today.
That’s really about it. I’m finally moving through the part of my life and starting something new that hopefully leads me back to somewhere I’m happy to be. It’s been a crazy year and half. But hopefully the next couple of months start feeling like forward progress and not me crawling back to baseline.
Thanks for reading.
